THE ADVENTURE CONTINUES: Like to start by saying Thank You to our sponsors in Augusta, GA: We have been at the Holiday Inn on Gordon Highway for 3 or 4 years in a row now and we really like the place. We’d also like to thank Jimmy Moore; he continues to support us year after year in Augusta by digging into that pocket.
At High Point we were sponsored by: We have had a rough year money wise and everything we can get really helps and we appreciate it. If you knew how much it takes to run one of these deals you’d understand. I don’t look. Anyway after Oklahoma and the 288 mile tow we had to park the big white truck and got lucky enough to sell it as is. Had a lot of money in that truck, but it had to go. We dusted off the 325 hp ‘94’ Freightliner to make it to Augusta and High Point. The truck is in great shape but 325 hp is not enough pull for our fully loaded 53 foot trailer. A couple of times I thought Ross and I were going to have to get out and push the deal up the hills, especially I-40 up to Ashville. We did mange to have to stop and buy 2 tires on the way to High Point but past that is was OK. We’re going to trade up on the Freightliner with a year newer one with 500 hp and are working on getting a really nice truck to make it to Phoenix and beyond. That’s right, like everything else you need a spare truck. We got to Augusta around 11pm and parked the trailer. Sue managed to watch Ross park it while standing in a fire ant mound in the dark, so we had a little adventure getting her back on her feet. Mike Robbins and Eric (his Dad) showed up so we could put up the awning frame and got Eric to take us to the Hotel.
AUGUSTA NIGHT OF FIRE Turns out that out of the 4 fuel boats we were the only boat with fuel so that was a panic for a while. Dennis Gibson got his 10-12 drums out of Nashville and everybody was happy. I did have 3 –more 55 gallon drums at the shop, for awhile I thought I was going to have to get it. We only managed to make one round of qualifying due to problems with the fuel system. Liquid Quiker ended up in 4th place with a 4.37ET. Sunday eliminations Mike was paired against Jarrett Silvey in the Hot Licks boat, who was also the #1 qualifier. Mike cut a .078 light against Jarrett’s .100 reaction time and crossed the finish line for the win at 3.778ET in 224.28mph. For the final round Liquid Quiker was paired against Speed Sports Special who had been running low ET’s all weekend and continued in the final round taking the win at 3.72ET to Liquid Quiker’s 3.98. We definitely have a lot of work to do before High Point next weekend. At High Point we had intended to get there about 10:00pm Wednesday and get a little more sleep, but after buying 2 tires, putting up the awning frame and waiting an hour for the taxi to the hotel, we ended up with less sleep than the week before. We really like the High Point race track, but it needs a couple more years to grow and get back where it once was. Lucas Oil is working on that deal. We went out early on the first round red light but that happens. If you never red light you’re not driving hard enough. The good part is that we finally solved the issue that had been plaguing us since we upgraded the motor. We could finally run the full track with out lifting. We qualified #1 at 3.72 seconds in not lifting before the finish line so look out we’re ready to crank it up now and you’ll see that in Phoenix in November.
